故事发生在1938年的奥地利萨尔兹堡，年轻活泼的修女玛丽亚·任纳尔(Maria Rainer)到退役海军上校冯·特拉普家，照顾他的七个孩子。冯·特拉普上校虽然冷漠严厉，但终究还是抵挡不住玛丽亚的纯洁善良，两人终于结婚，可惜刚刚渡完蜜月，他们的安静生活因被纳粹占领奥地利而破碎了。

幕后制作：
影片改编自同名舞台剧（而舞台剧又改编自玛丽亚的自传），风格清新，雅俗共赏，片中的歌曲脍炙人口，人物纯朴而正直的思想感情动人心弦。奥地利外景美不胜收：皑皑白雪、粼粼波光、碧绿的草地、典雅的建筑，为当地带来巨额旅游收入。女主角的表演细腻感人，她的歌喉更是美妙动人，是不折不扣的天乐。本片荣获第38届奥斯卡最佳影片、最佳导演等5项大奖。该故事曾于1956年由德国搬上银幕，片名是《川普一家》（Die Trapp�Familie），还有一部《川普一家在美国》的续集。

花絮：
·影片的第一个音乐片段“音乐之声”，是工作人员在返回洛杉机之前，在欧洲拍摄的最后一场。当时是1964年的六月末七月初，尽管看起来阳光明媚，朱丽·安德鲁斯不得不在山间不断地跳来跳去，天气寒冷刺骨。导演罗伯特·瓦斯说那个时候，为了全面地看到高空摄影拍摄的画面，他不得不爬到附近的一棵树上。

·在影片结束全家人爬到山上的时候，出于安全考虑，冯·恰皮上校肩膀上的格里特不是她本人。在DVD版本中显示，在澳大利亚的时候，金·卡拉斯就增加了不少体重。这场是电影最后部分戏之一，也是另一个原因，因为她已经太重了而不容易被克里斯托弗·普拉默背到肩上。于是在影片中出现的这个小孩是在克里斯托弗的要求下，找来的侏儒替身，体重只有格里特的一半。

·马里·马丁是原百老汇版本里玛丽娅的角色和该电影的制片人，最终将使得影片成本增加到八千万美元，相比较而言，安德鲁斯的片筹只要两百二十五万美元。

·音乐剧在百老汇上映的两年前，派拉蒙向冯·恰皮·辛格买下了故事的版权，并打算让奥黛丽·赫本出演玛丽娅。赫本表示拒绝出演，派拉蒙随即抛弃该电影计划。

·在影片拍摄到他们从船上掉进水里的场景，为了保持湿漉漉的样子，演员们不得不反复被水龙头浇得满身是水的。

·电影在韩国放映时，一些电影院每天放四到五场，票房不是很好。为了吸引更多的观众，首尔的一家电影院的经营者尝试着找到了办法，他把电影中的所有音乐片段剪掉
